1. What does Astro's Online Courses offer?
Astro's Online Courses offers 6 short online courses on business and technology which include android mobile application development, online store creation and stock market investing.
Recently, as of March, 2023, we have started offering National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) accredited occupational safety and health courses. Unlike the short courses, these accredited online courses are professional job training courses and include assessment and an examination leading to a certificate being awarded to successful students.
2. Who is NEBOSH?
NEBOSH is a UK-based examination board offering qualifications in health, safety, environment and wellbeing management. It was founded in 1979 and has charitable status. It offers a range of qualifications from introductory to professional level.
3. Are there any prerequisites or mandatory requirements for students wishing to take the courses?
For the short courses, there is no entry requirement as the courses are designed to be taken by anyone, including complete newbies, inexperienced people or beginners with no prior nowledge. There's no requirement, other than that you are willing learn a new course just by watching and learning through a set of videos to complete the course.
On the other hand, the NEBOSH courses have Minimum Eligibility Requirements. These are:
i) School Leaver: Grade 12 School Certificate with Credit in English and Mathematics for school leavers; or
ii) Working Class with OSH Qualifications: Grade 12 Certificate with Credits in English and Mathematics plus and holding any Level OSH Qualification from the University of Technology (UNITECH) (Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificates); or
iii) Working Class without any OSH Qualifications: Grade 12 Certificate with Credits in English and Mathematics with 5 years minimum work experience in an high risk industry (mining, petroleum, construction, shipping, etc.).
4. Who are the courses most suitable for?
For the short courses, the android app development course is great for young or tech savvy people as it teaches coding to build smartphone apps. The online store creation course, for people trying to sell online (clothing, food, beverage, arts, craft, jewelry, etc). The stock market trading course is ideal for the working class or investors with the money to invest in stocks listed on the US stock exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
The NEBOSH courses are professional job training courses and are therefore tailored for Grade 12 school leavers and experienced or qualified working class professionals who would like to get a globally recognized occupational safety and health qualification.
5. How does Astro's Online Courses learning platform work?
The platform we use to offer our courses is Teachable.com, which is an online learning management system. It is where we host all our video courses. Teachable's dashboard features are very intuitive, user friendly and simple. Here's how to sign up and enroll for a particular course;
i) "Sign up" to Astro's Online Courses. Once you've signed up, you can then browse through all our courses in detail to view course descriptions, course curriculum, etc.
ii) To buy a course, simply click on the "Purchase Course", "Buy now" or "Enroll in course" button and enter your Visa debit card details using Teachable.com's secure and safe payment gateway. You dan also pay via a bank deposit. Simply contact us for our banking details if you will be making payment via bank deposit.
6. What payment options does Astro's Online Courses accept?
In terms of paying for any course you want, we accept card payments (Visa debit, etc) processed by Teachable.com which is safe and secure. The site also accepts PayPal which provides another safe option for course purchases.
7. Does Astro's Online Courses offer certificates upon completion of the course?
The short courses which Astro's Online Courses offers does not offer certificates like a job training courses do because these are not job training courses. We can however offer a certificate of completion to show for undertaking and successfully completing the course.
The professional job training courses from NEBOSH are assessed by NEBOSH and students with Pass or higher will be awarded the relevant NEBOSH qualification.
8. How is the NEBOSH examination conducted?
The NEBOSH course examination is assessed by NEBOSH. The examination is strictly facilitated by independent and recognized examination centre. Astro's Online Courses does not conduct the exam but only facilitates the convening of the exam with the NEBOSH course provider and the examination centre in PNG. Examinations are convened twice annually in January and July and cost about £450 (or approx. PGK2,000).
